Geico: Generational Story Time

Geico : Generational Story Time

Generational Story Time is an audio-only interview series created as a collaboration between GEICO and the Black Information Network (BIN). By interviewing three generations of a family on a various topics such as a social media, hair care, and college legacies, we explore how Black life in America has (and hasn’t) changed over the decades. Below are just a few of my favorite episodes but please visit generationalstorytime.com for more stories, full episodes & descriptions.

Keep Ya’ Head Up The mental health stigma in the Black community is real but as generations have shifted, so has that perception. Listen as the McGill family shares their thoughts on that stigma and how they’ve approached finding help.

Taking Pride in Identity Being Black and LGBTQIA+ means finding your identity at the core of intersectionality. In this episode, the Ashe family shares their story of support, self-education, and growth.

Let’s Touch on Hair Solange said it best: “Our hair is our crown and should be treated as such.” Listen to this family as they discuss their hair journeys, from pressed to transitioning to natural and everything in between.

HBCU vs Everybody Hampton, Howard, Spell-House, FAMU, A&T. No matter where you went, HBCU culture (new school or old school) is a force to be reckoned with. In this episode we talk to a family about the rich lineage & history of HBCUs in their blood.
